For homework, please:
1) Get your journal! We will be using journals all year long, so it might behoove you to invest in a thicker notebook/journal in order to track your progress across the entire year (you are of course welcome to use multiple journals).
2) Once you have your journal, please write 10
sentences using 10 vocabulary words you've learned from the "What's the best sense?" texts. The idea is that you are utilizing words you would like to add to your active vocabulary and are "trying them out" to make sure that you are using them in the right contexts.
3) Review the notion of participle clauses here: https://www.grammaring.com/participle-clauses4) And complete exercise "Practice 1" on this page: https://www.grammar-quizzes.com/passive3c.html
5) Have a look at this video in preparation of an article we'll read on Wednesday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4jibdbwKm4
6) By Monday, October 15th, you should have written a 250-word essay in your journal in response to one of the following prompts:
a) What's the best sense?
b) A response to one of the questions from the Proust questionnaire
7) Order the textbook! Title and ISBN: Destination C1 & C2 Grammar and Vocabulary with key, 978-0-230-03540-9 You will need this text by next Monday.
Bring all
handouts with you to class on Wednesday. Please get into the habit of keeping
handouts in a folder/binder which you bring with you with your textbook to each
class.
Note concerning the journals: Journals only need to be brought to class on journal collection
days. The first journal collection day for the Monday/Wednesday group (i.e. you
J )
will be Wednesday, October 17th.
Make sure that you are present in class or give your journal to a classmate to
submit for you. I do not
accept late submissions and will not
read submissions you write outside of deadlines (meaning, if you miss the
deadline of October 17th but submit on time two weeks later, I will not read entries from the beginning
of October.)
