Ø Prepare
/ research / explore the following three
general topics, one of which will be chosen for the exam:
1.
environment: littering and fines
2.
conditions for maintaining driving licenses in Germany
3.
free university education in Germany
For homework, please complete essay #4 (info in previous post) and exercise 3 on pg. 93.
For this essay, please keep the strategy of thinking of an example corpus in mind: if you are responding to "Do people appreciate/value things more that they have to pay for?" narrow down the "people" to residents of Germany and the "things" to paying for museums/going to free exhibitions, paying for/attending free uni, and/or paying for/receiving free health care. Depending on the specific thesis you make (answering "yes" or "no" is not a thesis; making the statement "People appreciate things they have direct involvement in the planning of, whether these are free or not" is), you can focus on just one of these examples or all of them (there are plenty of others you could use). Just remember to make sure that your thesis always stems from evidence; don't take the approach of developing a thesis out of thin air and then hunting for evidence later.
