Consider the essay we started to build in class:
Question: Are gap years a waste of time?
Thesis: Gap years aren't but entering university unprepared is.
Medium idea 1: Gap years provide the opportunity for orientation, now more important than ever.
Support: switch from G9 to G8 in Germany cuts out entire year, German Bachelor's system is 3 years and not 4 years, stats on drop-out rates between those with gap years and those without
Medium idea 2: Gap years provide skills necessary to excel at uni and to stand out in the workforce post graduation
Support: focus on individual examples including preparing for English studies by doing gap year in anglophone country, pursuing a FSJ and obtaining volunteer experience necessary for scholarship applications, obtaining first experiences living on one's own without pressures of studying
For homework, outline an introduction and a conclusion for the essay above.
