Kompetenzerweiterung II (Tuesday/Thursday Group), Homework for June 24th

Your task for this week is to learn ALL of the vocabulary for Unit 24 (Relationships and people) and complete all of the remaining accompanying exercises. Much of it will be review, but please pay attention to sections (those other than topic vocabulary and word formation) that we did not cover last semester. Please also review the verbs that take the gerund or the infinitive from Unit 23.

The following videos and quiz sites can help you in practicing ger and infinitive and review the concept of being precise with language:
BBC English in a Minute Peep, Peer, Glimpse (this short video distinguishes these three verbs nicely; please aim to use language precisely on the exam): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUJGx96lvjE
BBC English in a Minute Stop to do vs stop doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFkrX90BRjQ
BBC Masterclass Gerund and Infinitive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZupSm_EyHA

Come up with sentences for these 15 items (taken from last year's exam):
Verbal complements: Complete each sentence with a verb phrase that is grammatical and makes sense. Example: We suggest avoiding that restaurant.

1. The process entails
2. They neglected
3. The conditions qualified
4. Do you remember
5. I just heard
6. Did you remind
7. They are contemplating
8. We resisted
9. I hesitated
10. She regrets
11. The authorities caught
12.The supervisor expects
13. We resolved
14.I overheard
15. She denied

Finally, please review Units 9 (Modals and semi-modals) and 11 (Conditionals), including their accompanying exercises. Bring in any questions you have concerning concrete examples/instances that are unclear to you.

Your optional essay topics for this week are:
1. Is family overrated?
2. What a makes a true friend?

(Even if you don't have time to write an entire essay, a good exercise would be to take 10-15 minutes to brainstorm an outline pretending it is exam day.)

Choose one of the above questions for your optional essay of 250-350 words and submit it to me via email in an MS Word document by Tuesday, June 22nd at midnight. Essays must meet the word-limit guidelines and be submitted by the deadline in order to receive feedback.
