For homework, please:
- read one article and watch one video clip/listen to one podcast on your prepared debate question this week and pretend that you are debating the author/speaker. What (devil's advocate) arguments would you present to counter what author/speaker has stated?
- read the file "New Zealand Plans to Eventually Ban All Cigarette Sales" and answer the following questions: a) Should other countries follow New Zealand's lead? b) Will other countries follow New Zealand's lead?
- consider the question "Are Kanken backpacks overrated?" before you watch the following video Here’s How Swedish Brand Fjällräven's Backpack Became A Global Icon | Suddenly Obsessed - YouTube See if your arguments change (even in the slightest) after watching the video.
- read the file "Suffixes and word stress II" and complete exercises 11.1 and 11.3 of the "Suffixes and word stress II exercises" file.
Make sure you're prepared to debate the following questions in next week's class:
1. Should other countries follow New Zealand's lead when it comes to cigarette sales?
2. Are Kanken backpacks overrated? (Note: This is NOT a jab at people who own these backpacks! Be respectful, whether you own this product or not. (Pretend your partner does.))
