Language Skills II, Homework for Week 13

For homework, please:
1. Complete the two assignments distributed at the end of class today. Fill in the correct tenses (there might be several options) in the Lemony Snicket article (and then check your answers here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/jan/13/lemony-snickets-a-series-of-unfortunate-events-review-netflix ) and complete the reading comprehension task on the think tank article. Make sure that you put your responses to the comprehension question in your own words. (I have noticed from student work that elegant paraphrasing has been difficult for some.)

Reviews are great sources in terms of specificity of language and example. This was often missing from your written work, but paying attention to its inclusion will improve your grade/mark on the exam.

2. Consider rewriting the summary and assessment of the West article (available here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/09/barack-obama-legacy-presidency ), paying particular attention to using specific language and providing concrete examples. If you turn this in next week in class, I am happy to look at it and return it to you in our last class.
3. Extra exercises on subjunctive, articles, and prepositions:
http://www.businessenglishresources.com/subjunctive-exercises/
https://www.adelaide.edu.au/english-for-uni/articles/exercise-1/  (other exercises available on the left-hand margin)
http://www.businessenglishsite.com/business-english-grammar-prepositions1.html
(more exercises on prepositions available here at the bottom of this main page: http://www.businessenglishsite.com/business-english-grammar-tests.html )

4. A review of possessives in English can be found here: https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/english-grammar/possessives/possessives-nouns

If during these exercises you stumble upon any questions which you'd like addressed in class, please bring them in next week.
