Language Skills II, Homework for Week 12

For homework, please complete the following:

Insert either a def., inf. or zero article OR preposition in the following blanks:

____  RECENT study by CareerBuilder, ____  recruitment firm, has ranked _____ 53 largest metropolitan areas ______ America according ______ their ability to withstand ______ zombie invasion. Cities _____ which ______ large percentage of the population work ______ the military and the protective services score well in ______ “defence” category. Small arms and ammo manufacturing also help matters. _____P/plentiful engineers and construction workers lead to _____ better “containment” score, although _______ high population density can reduce this value.       ____ P/places like Boston that contain _______ large number of biotech and medical research firms score well in the “cure-research” category, and ____ cities where food manufacturing is a high percentage of _____ total exports are afforded a high “food-supply” score. ______ R/residents of bottom-placed New York can take _____ solace from _____ fact that Boston is just _____ four-hour drive—or three-day walk—away.

Listen to a podcast or video clip and write three sentences from the audio in reported speech (ideally, they are not all in the present tense).

Utilize the subjunctive in five sentences employing five different verbs that trigger the subjunctive. At least two of the sentences should be in the negative. (A good context would be making recommendations for a third person concerning New Year's resolutions.)

Neglect usually takes the infinitive (i.e. most cases) but can take the gerund in the following context (context is key!), for example:
He/she neglected taking care/to take care of the children.
